Although
soaps are known for depicting real-life stories, Coronation Street are
taking things a little further with a new plotline involving killer
spiders.
According to Daily Star, show bosses are hoping the eight-legged critters will bring some humour to the ITV drama.
Anna
Windass, played by Debbie Rush, startles the residents after learning
that local supermarket Freshco’s, has been shut after a worker there was
bitten by one of the spiders.
Real-life: Coronation Street are set to introduce an invasion of killer spiders in an upcoming plotline
‘A check-out girl was waving around a bunch of bananas when a great big massive spider came out and bit her,’ she spills.
‘The check-out girl had to be rushed to hospital, they had to shut the shop and everything.’
At the
Rovers Return, locals Michelle Connor (Kym Marsh) and Carla Barlow
(Alison King) are left fearing for their lives and admit Weatherfield
could be under attack by the eight-legged creatures.
Michelle says: ‘You've heard the news then? Liz reckons she was in there five minutes before it happened.
‘I've heard they've closed the store because it bit a 48-year-old bloke and he's in a coma.
‘I heard there was three of them and one is still on the loose!’
Fatal: Many black widow spiders have been discovered in the UK
A
show insider revealed: ‘We like to react to what's going on in real
life so as everyone is still talking about spiders it makes sense for us
to feature them in Weatherfield.’
Meanwhile,
it has also been reported Corrie babe Georgia May Foote has secured a
top new modelling contract with Select Model Management.
The
23-year-old star – who is famous for playing Katy Armstrong – is set to
leave the Manchester-based soap next year to focus on her modelling, as
well as other acting roles.
