Has rap star Drake become Toronto’s unofficial ambassador of all sports? It looks like Drake has become more than just the Toronto Raptors’ global ambassador, as the ‘Started From The Bottom’ srtist seems to be the sole reason why Jermain Defoe, Tottenham England striker, has been persuaded to join Toronto.
Drake must have been very persuasive, because all it took was a phone call to Defoe to get the job done. It doesn’t hurt that Defoe is also a huge Drake fan and was apparently blown away by the personal effort.
In addition, Toronto FC have offered Defoe £90,000 a week (C$155,310). To sweeten this deal they’ve also offered unlimited free flights for Jermain Defoe and his family, and have also offered to provide him with two houses. This offer, combined with a phone call from one of his favourite artists has helped to cement the deal with Defoe.
However, while Jermain Defoe may be joining Toronto, until the North American pre-season begins, he will be loaned to the north Londoners.
Although his transfer to Toronto may hinder his World Cup chances, Defoe seems pretty confident that he will be able to make the Roy Hodgson's Brazillian team next summer.
